Middle Age Women Friends Talking at Living Area.

Monash Women’s Health Research Centre (Melbourne) is seeking women to participate in a new study to determine the optimum application of a 1% testosterone cream for women.

Currently the 1% testosterone cream for women manufactured by Lawley Pharmaceuticals is applied to the upper thigh, lower abdomen or buttock but what is not known is whether it is better to apply it over a small area or rub it in over a large area of skin. This study will determine which is best.

Principal clinician Professor Susan Davis and her team at Monash University are the world’s foremost experts in female testosterone research. They are experienced in the use of testosterone therapy for women to improve libido and wellbeing. Testosterone is in clinical use in Australia and worldwide for low libido.

The study is looking to recruit women who are:

  • Post-menopausal and in general good health
  • Aged between 45-65 years
  • Able to attend the Women’s Health Research Program located at the Alfred Centre, Prahran for 6 visits over a 2 month period including two appointments of 11 hour duration
  • Willing to have blood samples will be taken at each visit

This study requires the use of a 1% testosterone  cream daily over 2 different sized application areas over a 45 day period. If you are currently using any testosterone creams, a four week break will be required before commencing the study.

What we learn from the study will help to optimise the use of 1% testosterone creams for women. It will form part of a submission to the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration which, if successful, will ultimately see the 1% testosterone cream for women available nationally.

If you would like to participate in the study or know of someone who may also like to participate contact Monash Women’s Health on (03) 9903 0833 (Jenny) or (03) 9903 0836 (Corallee) or contact Lawley Pharmaceuticals on 1800 627 506

Further information about the study can be found here.
